BREAKING NEWS - 7.6 Earthquake Shakes Mexico City 20.03.2012
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake has hit south-western Mexico. The US Geological Survey says the quake happened 193 kilometers east of Acapulco on Mexico's Pacific coast. The earthquake, which had its epicenter in Ometepec in Guerrero State, has reportedly rocked buildings in Mexico City, forcing frightened workers and residents out into the streets. A 4.8-magnitude aftershock was felt in Mexico City following the earthquake. Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard posted on his Twitter that the water system and other "strategic services" were not experiencing any problems. "The health system is operating normally, except for some broken glass and other minor damage," he also posted. The US Geological Survey registered the epicenter as being 17.5 kilometers underground. Mexico's President Felipe Calderon said that no serious damage had been caused by the strong quake. The telephone service was reported to be down throughout the area where the quake was felt.

BBC NEWS: Strong earthquake rocks Spain, killing 10 - May 11, 2011, BST 21.00
At least 10 people were killed after a magnitude 5.3 earthquake toppled several buildings in southern Spain, near the town of Lorca, officials say. The quake struck at a depth of just 1km (0.6 miles), some 120km south-west of Alicante, at 1850 (1650 GMT), the US Geological Survey reported. Lines of cars lay crushed under tonnes of rubble and a hospital was evacuated as a precaution. The quake followed a 4.4 magnitude tremor about two hours earlier. It is not clear how many people were injured, although Spanish media say there are dozens. Military deployed Spanish TV captured dramatic images of a church bell tower crashing to the ground, landing just metres from the cameraman. Shocked residents and workers rushed out of buildings and gathered in squares, parks and open spaces. Old buildings were badly damaged. A doctor told the online edition of El Pais that she and her colleagues went into the streets and treated people with serious injuries, many of them "unconscious". "The ambulances could not reach them. They took more than 40 minutes," she said. The earthquakes were felt over a wide area. "Unfortunately, we can confirm... deaths due to cave-ins and falling debris," Lorca Mayor Francisco Jodar told radio station Ser. "We are trying to find out if there are people inside the collapsed houses," he added. Spain's Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has deployed emergency military units to the scene, the Spanish Efe news agency reported. Mr Zapatero was in a ...

Earthquake Footage from New York, Virginia, Maryland - News!
Earthquake Footage from New York, Virginia, Maryland - News!
Earthquake Footage by the News Media. According to the US Geological Survey website and wire reports, what was going on, was a 5.9-magnitude quake that struck about 34 miles west of Richmond, Virginia, sending tremors up the coast to DC, Philly and New York. And to that one Tweeter who felt President Obama was conspicuous by his absence in the capital, hold your horses. The president and his family, vacationing on Martha's Vineyard, might have even felt a little shaking, along with those living in parts of Rhode Island and Vermont. Yep, the tremors reached all the way up there, and out west to parts of West Virginia and Ohio. Airports grounded East Coast-bound flights, though Philly International is back up and running after being closed briefly to inspect whether there was damage to the runways. Those DC seemed to be the most shaken up -- literally -- being so close to the epicenter of the quake. Communications were down, too, as emergency switchboards were jammed with people calling to ask just what the heck was going on. In New York, several buildings were evacuated. Wobbling was felt in some of the taller buildings, according to reports, and people seemed more than just a little put out by the phenomenon. "Sitting through earthquakes -- not my job description," one New Yorker groused on Facebook. So far, there are no reports of injuries or damages in Philly or New York. In Philly, the Comcast Center is closed and all City Council employees sent home for the day, and ...
